I still remember the first day I had you as a teacher. It was in a portable room beside the school hall at the old Camden High School. You were completely unknown to a rather slovenly 4A1 class who had performed very badly the year before. We had taken our seats in our usual manner when this unknown, athletic man in shorts strode into the room. The first words were. ”who said you could sit down?!” Stunned we got back to our feet to be greeted with, “Good Morning 4A1”. Even more stunned we replied, “ Good Morning Sir”, having no idea who this man was.

So began my time with the best teacher I ever experienced, and I was privileged to have several great teachers at that time in Camden High School.

But it was more than a teacher that we were about to experience. It was a man who offered useful advice about life and who believed and expected more of us than we did. In that year, year 10 as it was becoming known as, this teacher first assessed how little we had learnt the previous year then caught us up to where we should be, taught the Year 10 curriculum and then started some Year 11 3 unit work at the end of the year and for a fortunate few there were even some 4 unit math lessons. What a year! And on top of this you became sports master. It was a good balance.

I was a rather immature, and at times wayward student, but you had a way of bringing out the best in me and creating a desire to learn. It was a joy to be in your classes. You knew the subject matter perfectly but it was something else that drew effort out us. Discipline was strong in the classes but that was not it either. It was a result more than an imposition. After those first moments behaviour was never again an issue.  You just brought something out of us all. I have often talked to people about that year of 1976, still awed by what you were able to achieve in us.

I can still remember the look of amazement on my physics teacher’s face when his Year 11 physics class had no problems with him differentiating a sine function. In all of his years of teaching physics he had not had a class whose maths skills were beyond what the physics required at that point.

The solidity you gave to my scholastic effort was rewarded with my becoming Dux though I was disappointed with my HSC results. I fluffed the easiest question in the 4-unit paper by misreading. Oh dear, the area under the y-axis NOT the x. J I still remember it. It cost me dear. But those things teach as well.

At is has happened I have stumbled upon your website. I knew that you had been successful in the coaching field and I am happy to see just how successful you have been and the positive effect you have had on so many lives. My experience with you predates all of this but your success is simply a follow-on to the dedication you displayed for us all those years ago. I wish you continued success.

I hope shortly to be off to the States to take up work in a programming field. I still have a young child and I hope I can give her some of the enthusiasm for learning you gave me when I was young.

A grateful, former student

Master Coaching, in particular Mr. Bob Ollis was inspirational, vigilant and motivated towards my own personal growth and development. In fact if it wasn’t for Bob and his team at Master Coaching I may not have achieved some of the things I take for granted today.

I firmly believe that Master Coaching was one of the sole drivers in my personal development through my secondary education and this is my story;

I started with Master Coaching concentrating on mathematics tutoring in year 7 (1984) of high school. At that time I barely understood some of the basic principles of mathematics, my times tables were okay, my arithmetic was okay and my understanding of fractions was poor. For this reason I was placed into the forth highest class. I was ranked 90th or so in the form of around 200 students. I guess I was an average student at that time.

The next few years saw the development of my mathematics, I was pushed up a class almost each year and by year 10 I was sitting firmly in the top math’s class, 10A1. My understanding of mathematics saw me excel and I often topped each class on my way to the top math’s class.

In year 10 I undertook advanced mathematics for the school certificate. I received an A which was the highest grade for maths at year 10 level.

As my knowledge increased and I achieved a top mark for math’s, improvements in other subjects were also noticeable. The achievement in maths was one of the deciding factors that kept me at school to complete the HSC.

There is no denying that year’s 11 and 12 are difficult, stressful and over bearing at times. It was with great tutelage from Bob and his team at Master Coaching that I went on to complete 4 unit mathematics in the HSC. I topped the exam with a mark in excess of 190 out of a possible 200. This mark alone provided me with around 50% of my total HSC mark and enabled me to get into my first choice of University.

Upon leaving school I was awarded a cadetship in building (my chosen profession) and I went on to complete a 6 year part-time course at University.

Today I am a Senior Development Manager for a large development company in Sydney where I oversee major developments from acquisition to design, planning, approvals, construction and marketing valued between $150M to $300M, I am happily married with a young daughter and have managed to personally acquire property valued near $2M.

I am grateful to Bob Ollis and Master Coaching; they helped me realize my full potential. I would very much recommend their services to anybody considering tutoring of their children. It worked for me and it will work for you. Bob continues to be a close family friend and his attributes will always be held in the highest regard.

Many thanks

Jeremy

Master Coaching really works! As a university preparation teacher for almost ten years I am in the business of marking and correcting work regularly as a part of our organized courses. After being trained in “The Art of Coaching” I have incorporated Bob’s positive philosophy and constant reinforcement of every student’s potential into every class I teach. While I have always been able to achieve great results and had a positive rapport with my students, Master Coaching has really taken this to another level. In the first class I tried it in I had the best results and one of the most enjoyable teaching experiences of my career. Now every student excels. I know that Bob’s system works and I am both proud and excited to be a member of the Master Coaching team.
